Iona College Chapel and Library

The solemn blessing of the new Iona Chapel, dedicated to Our Lady Help of Christians, and the blessing and opening of the “Bishop De Mazenod Memorial Library” ceremonies were held on 4th April 1975.  Mass was celebrated by His Grace, Father Hannah, other College Oblates as well as several local priests while the primary choir sang parts of the Mass and hymns.

After dinner, His Grace blessed the new library and declared it officially open. The then Rector, Rev Fr Vincent Lourey O.M.I. paid tribute to all persons involved in the buildings. Archbishop Rush urged all present to use the buildings well and frequently, “the Chapel to raise their souls to God and the Library to feed their minds on the wisdom of ages”.
