The First Day

That 28 January 1958 was the first day students attended Iona College. Fifty-eight boys began in Years 6 and 7 with four Oblate priests on staff including Fr Tim Long O.M.I. (first Rector), Fr Denis McCarthy O.M.I., Fr Michael Clarke O.M.I. and Fr Tom Shortall O.M.I.. Archbishop Duhig had donated the land to the Oblates to build and staff the college. He attended its opening day.
